In functional medicine one of the key ways I have been able to help patients feel better is help them identify any foods that create inflammation in their body. Some people will call these food reactions allergies and others will call it food intolerances. And others may call them food sensitivities. The main commonality in these occurrences is that a food will generally trigger a negative immune response in the body which could lead to a disruption of the body’s proper function.
Over the years in private practice and helping lots of patients with chronic, complex illnesses I have witnessed many interesting cases and noticed distinct patterns of dysfunction.
Early in my career I noticed that some of these negative food reactions people had could be attributed to some past traumatic emotional stress association with that food. Most people that have studied basic psychology are familiar with the concept of the conditioned response as seen in the classic Pavlov’s Dog experiments.
In my blog I will be sharing stories of people who have had allergy/sensitivity reactions and intolerances that were triggered by a past associated stress or trauma. Some of these stories are truly amazing.
